Unbeaten Henry Craig Heads Wild West Futurity Trials On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 30, 2016—A total of 25 juveniles will be in action in three trials to the Wild West Futurity on Sunday night with the horses with the 10 fastest times moving on to the $118,200 final to be on October 23 at Los Alamitos. First post time is 5 p.m. The Wild West trials features horses that have raced in the Intermountain and Northwest regions plus Nevada and Canada.

There are some eye-catching performers in the trials led by unbeaten Oregon-bred star Henry Craig. A winner of all four of his starts, the Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing-owned star will be looking for his third futurity win of the year. He’s already won the Pot O Gold Futurity at Sun Downs and the Firecraker Futurity at Grants Pass.

Henry Craig’s Firecracker win gave trainer Hector Magallanes of Boardman, Oregon his third victory in the race in the past four years. Magallanes was in the winner’s circle at Los Alamitos in 2014 when Angel Eyez won the Kip Didericksen Handicap for his father, Ruben Magallanes.

Henry Craig is out of owner Cedric Hayden’s mare Copa Show Girl, who has provided two other stakes winners for Magallanes. Henry Craig will be in action in the first of three trials at 350 yards on Sunday. This field will also feature Denny and Sandy Weigt’s Paint A Candy Storm, a finalist to the $428,000 Kindergarten Futurity earlier this year.

The Weigts will also be represented by Beehive Futurity winner Bannister in the second trial. The Maknmoves gelding ran third in the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge on August 20 and has won four of six career starts.

The third and final trial will be headed by Jere Brinkerhoff’s Oh So Fancy, the runner-up in the Intermountain Futurity at Elko, and Korry Trapp’s Ktmakinataxreturn, second in a PCQHRA Breeders Futurity trial.
