VINTON, LA—MAY 13, 2013—A full field is expected to faceoff Friday night (May 17) in the $55,000 Guaranteed Delta 550 Championship at Delta Downs.
Carlos Lazano's Political Option will be looking to bounce off sixth place finish in his last start after getting squeezed in the John Alleman Memorial Stakes(RG3) on April 27. Conditioned by Kenneth Roberts, Sr., the 4-year-old was victorious in the Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Louisiana Downs on March 2 and a close second in the Louisiana Champions Day Derby in December.
Jesse Chavis has been named to ride the Jess Louisiana Blue gelding who has won four of 19 career starts and earned $211,880.
Douglas Traylor's Rocky Mountain Fly will start off layoff after a two-race win streak that included the Louisiana Champions Day Derby on December 8. The Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trainee was third in his only start at the 550 yard distance, but he has won twice at 440 yards and his derby victory was at 400. Donnell Blake has been asked to ride the 4-year-old Panther Mountain gelding who has earning in excess of $80,400.
Also coming off a poor performance when he stumbled in an April 26 Delta allowance race, Worlds On High will back down from 870 to 550 for this start. The Game Patriot 7-year-old is 9-11-5 in 40 starts and has earned $174,623. He won the Magnolia Stakes at Louisiana Downs on February 9 for owner Kris Locklear and trainer Vann Haywood. Regular rider Alfonso Lujan will up.
Expected to complete the Delta 550 Championship field are Blue Louisiana Jolla, Streakin World, Ajs Fast Dash, T Boy P, Kokopelli Blues, Pagan Stone, and Jesssapatriot.
The Delta 550 Championship will be contested as race nine on Friday's 10 race card with an expected post of 10:05 p.m. (CDT) First post is 6:45 p.m. All Delta Downs races can be viewed live at Q-Racing Video.
