Track Record Falls as Streakin Down and Stolis Winner Battle in Bank of America Oklahoma Trials

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 24, 2011—Grade 1 winner Streakin Down and all-time leading money earners Stolis Winner battled to a new track record over a sloppy track in the $100,000-added Bank of America Oklahoma Championship trials on Sunday at Remington Park.

Streakin Down posted the top time over two trials for the Bank of America Oklahoma Championship and established a new 440-yard track record in the process.

Owned by Ed Melzer of Edmond, Okla. and trained by Eddie Willis, Streakin Down crossed the finish in :21.005 seconds to better the 440-yard mark set by Chances Are I Wil, :21.068, in the 2008 Remington Park Championship. Jockey Jimmy Brooks had the ride.

Bred in Texas by Marcus Smith, Streakin Down is a 4-year-old gelding by Streakin Sixes from the Heza Fast Man mare First Lady Amber. He has now won 10 races from 20 career starts, five of the wins taking place at Remington Park. The trial winnings of $6,000 moved the lifetime earnings for Streakin Down to $692,388.

Streakin Down defeated the sport’s all-time leading money earner by a head as Stolis Winner finished second in the same trial. Stolis Winner was making his first start at Remington Park since winning the $1,000,000 Heritage Place Futurity in 2008. He would go on to win the All American Futurity later that year.

Stolis Winner posted a trial time of :21.036, which also bettered the old 440-yard record. Owned by Jerry Windham of College Station, Texas and trained by Heath Taylor, Jacky Martin had the call for the first time aboard the 5-year-old Stoli gelding. The second-place run by Stolis Winner was worth $2,000 more to his bankroll, which now stands at $2,172,599.

Sally Box's Mr Truly Uno won the second trial by ˝ length over Flying By Ya in his first appearance this year. The Feature Mr Jess gelding, also ridden by Jacky Martin, completed the course in :21.427 for the third fastest clocking.

C. Dwayne Gilbreath trains the 4-year-old whom Jacque Tanton bred in Texas from the Tolltac mare Truley Yours. The winner's purse of $5,946 pushed the lightly raced gelding's career earnings mark to more than $60,000. Unraced at 2, Mr Truly Uno qualified to the $1.5 million All American Derby(G1) last season at Ruidoso Downs.

The 2011 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season continues Thursday thru Sunday, April 28-May 1 at Remington Park. The $100,000 Sooner State Stakes for Oklahoma-bred runners, 3-years-old and older, is the featured event of the weekend on Saturday.

The first race on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is at 6pm. Sunday afternoon racing starts at 1:30pm.
