John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Trials Draw 24 Two-Year-Olds

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 12, 2014—Pete Scarmardo’s What A Smooth Deal is one of 24 2-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 350-yard John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge trials at Will Rogers Downs.

A homebred daughter of the Game Patriot stallion Dealagame trained by Gerry McLean, What A Smooth Deal ships in from Texas, where he won two of four starts and earned $18,690 and was a finalist in the July 26, $365,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Retama Park.

Francisco Calderon will ride What A Smooth Deal from post 7 in the second of three trials.

Dusty Rose Ranch’s Docs Dusty Dale, a homebred filly by champion Okey Dokey Dale trained by Cristino Estrada, drew the rail post in the first trial. Docs Dusty Dale will be making her first start since July 26, when she ran sixth in the 350-yard, $172,000 Speedhorse Futurity (G2) at Fair Meadows at Tulsa.

Randy Wilson will ride Docs Dusty Dale on Sunday.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $27,500-added John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge final on September 28.
