Check N Fetch, Nellie Delaney clash In Merial California Distaff Challenge

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 16, 2014—Check N Fetch, last year’s AQHA champion aged mare; and Nellie Delaney, winner of the Grade I Los Alamitos Winter Derby in February, headline the field in Saturday night’s $24,390 Merial California Regional Distaff Challenge at 400 yards.

The winner of this event will compete in the Bank of America Challenge Championships at Prairie Meadows in Iowa on October 18.

Check N Fetch is a 6-year-old daughter of Check Him Out out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Shyann La Jolla who was is owned by Lorena Velazquez Rodriguez, is conditioned by Paul Jones and will be ridden by Ramon Sanchez.

Last year’s championship campaign saw Check N Fetch accounting for six of her 11 starts, including the Grade I Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap; the Grade I Merial Distaff Challenge; the California Breeders Matron Stakes; the Miss Princess Stakes and the Independence Day Handicap.

Check N Fetch has made one start in 2014, finishing second in a game try in the Charger Bar Handicap on January 5 after battling on the lead in that 400-yard fixture. She is looking to add to a $289,000 lifetime bankroll.

Nellie Delaney is a 4-year-old daughter of Fdd Dynasty out of Fleeting Touch who carries the banner of her breeders J. Garven Kelly and Nancy Yearsley with Juan Aleman training and Cruz Mendez in the saddle.

Nellie Delaney looked sensational in her most recent start, as she crushed her rivals in the Grade I Los Alamitos Winter Championship with Raul Valenzuela in the irons. She has qualified for the Champion of Champions and has been working in sparkling fashion for Aleman while drawing a cozy outside slot.

Taking on this dynamic duo are Ss Calendar Girl, to be guided from the rail by Santiago Mendez; Forgotten Dynasty with Rodolfo Arivizu; The Streakin Clean, Carlos Huerta; and Shez Jess Toxic, who will have the services of Cesar DeAlba.
