FARMINGTON, NM—JUNE 11, 2011—Racing for owner /trainer Jaime Aldavaz, Leave N Legal broke well and rallied to win the New Mexico Breeders' Stakes(RG3) at SunRay Park on Saturday afternoon.
The 400 yard event for 3-year-old's bred in New Mexico carried a purse of $85,000 with the winner taking home a cool $51,000.
Under jockey Bonifacio Perez, the gray completed his task in :19.109 seconds to record a 104 speed index. Gary and Bonnie Hartstack bred the Illegal Runaway gelding from the Leaving Memories mare Steppin Mary.
Famous Paint broke alertly under jockey Porfirio Cano to put in a bid before finishing a half-length off Leave N Legal for second. Racing for Enriquez Sergio, the Dash Ta Fame gelding is trained by Lawrence Boyd. Bred by MJ Farms, Famous Paint earned $17,000. He is out of the Rare Form mare Segura.
A head back in third, Real Jackpot earned $8,500 for owner/trainer Lawrence Boyd. Alejandro Medellin rode the Jacksboro gelding out of Real Easy Celadon, by Celadon. Edwin Mayer, Jr. is the breeder.
Completing the field were Formerly Hot, Snow Regard, Love Me Caliente, Famous Dungarees, Primvvera, Rebellious Wind and Woody Slew.
