ELKO, NV—SEPTEMBER 6, 2010—Les Barlow and Gary Messenger's Hawkinsign was the best two-year-old on Monday when he scored a one length victory in the $50,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity.
Trained by Bret Vickery, Hawkinsign broke on top and was never headed through the 350 yard race. He completed the course in a quick :17.558 seconds to earn a 104 speed index.
The home-bred Hawkinson gelding ridden by Paul Greene earned $20,000 for the effort.
E.J. Petitti's Ms Diamond Runway finished second under jockey Uriel Dominguez. The Ocean Runaway filly saddled by Ron Moosman picked up $10,000.
A head back in third was Ray and Ron Moosman's Rm Nice Move Here. The home-bred Maknmoves filly is also trained by Ron Moosman and was ridden by Cameron Colledge. She earned $5,000.
Lil Bitts A Dash finished fourth, but was disqualified and placed eighth. Completing the field were Sutterfield, Eyes A Cherry Cola, Brookabella, Lj Rassy Yin You, Justice Ace Of Joy, Lil Bitts A Dash and Bf Invincible.
Lds Patty Ann Wins Elko Intermountain Quarter Horse Derby
Donna King's home-bred Dash Ta Fame filly, Lds Patty Ann, was a convincing winner in the $30,000 Elk Intermountain Quarter Horse Derby on Monday.
Saddled by Bret Vickery, Lds Patty Ann completed the 400 yard course in :19.668 to earn a 107 speed index.
Ridden by Paul Greene the sorrel filly earned $12,000.
Dennie and Kris Hill's home-bred filly Lite My Fyre finished second earning $6,000. The Walk Tru Fire Fire filly was also trained by Vickery and ridden by Russell Vicchrilli.
A half-length back in third was Sunbeams Royal Pip for owners Ross Brown and Elsha McGarry. The filly by A Classic Dash is trained by Randy Brown and ridden by Dirk Crane. She earned $3,000.
Completing the field were Candy For Eyein You, Shake Em Silver, El Rey Magnifico, It Gets Better, Outlaw Bullet, Lil Runnin Ute and Dash N Air.
