CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 4, 2010—Trainer Eddie Willis and jockey Jimmy Brooks qualified half the field during nine trials contested Saturday for the $100,000 OQHRA Black Gold Futurity-Division II at Will Rogers Downs.
The ten fastest qualifiers will return on September 18th to contest the 330 yard final. The top ten qualifiers for each division are also eligible to enter trials for the $300,000 Black Gold Championship(RG1) finals on November 14th.
Willis and Brooks won four of the nine trails qualifying Capo de Capai-3rd; Passion For Corona-5th; PYC Takes All-7th; Takin The High Road-9th; and Im Going Beyond-10th.
Trainer Luis Villafranco saddled the fastest qualifier, White Litenin, for owner/breeder Suzie Marrs. Kenny Muntz rode the Royal Blue Chew Chew colt over the 330 yards in :16.874 seconds to earn a 102 speed index and win by one length.
Chase This Wagon, one of three offspring who qualified by first crop sire PYC Paint Your Wagon, won the third trial by one length for the second fastest time of :16.875. Kasey Willis trains the gelding bred by Newcomb Cattle Company. Stormy Smith was aboard.
