Mobley Trials Won by Sons of Royal Quick Charm at Hoosier Park

ANDERSON, IN—SEPTEMBER 4, 2010— It was a big night for sire Royal Quick Charm and breeder Diana Moster. Both trials for the first running of the Gordon Mobley Futurity were awarded to sons of the Indiana stallion in preparation for the $100,000 final set for Sunday, September 19th.

In the first trial, A Touch of Charm and rider Aron Hunt rallied out in front of his opponents and scored a comfortable two and one-half length win at the end of the 350-yard dash. After a delay in getting in the gates, the freshman gelding was all business and led the entire way, surprising fans with an $18.60 win payoff. Fettichini and Harold Collins finished second for trainer Janey Adams while JLB Dashin Ranger finished third with Richard Gilliard aboard.

Trained by Ron Raper, Hoosier Park’s all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer, A Touch Of Charm earned his second win in five starts this year. He is owned by Eric Doctor. The time of :18.437 was the fastest time turned in for both trials.

Ima Rare Charm won the second of two trials under jockey Harold Collins.

“We had a little problem behind the gates, but once he’s in the race, he always has his mind good,” said Hunt, who is in his first year of riding. “Once he was in the gate, it just gave him time to sit in there and get his mind right. When the gates popped open, he was in front really quick and got out in front by several lengths. At the end, I just tried to pull him up and save him for the final.”

In the second round of the Mobley Trials, Im A Rare Charm and Collins broke well and kept grinding away to the front, getting the lead and fending off a late push by Oh So Ever Clever and Hunt. The grey gelding won the race by a neck in a time of :18.499. I Can Lead Too Yawl and Orlando Mojica were close for third.

Owned by breeder Diana Moster, Im A Rare Charm was making only his second career start in the Mobley Trial. He now possesses more than $11,000 in career earnings. Raul Hernandez trains Im A Rare Charm.

The win aboard Im A Rare Charm gave Collins his seventh winner of the meet, pushing him ahead in the early standings for the leading Quarter Horse rider. Shanley Jackson sits in second place followed by Hunt for third. Collins has two leading Quarter Horse riding titles to his credit at Hoosier Park, including the honor in 2009.
