Promontory Impresses In Career Debut, Sets Fastest Time In Beehive Futurity Trials

OGDEN, UT–APRIL 6, 2024–Promontory, a son of third-crop sire Kvn Corona, posted an impressive debut on Saturday when he raced to a 1-1/4 length victory in the last of six trials for the Beehive Futurity at Weber Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Utah racetrack on April 21 to vie for the winner's share of a $82,446 purse.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Canales, Promontory completed the 300 yards in :15.415 seconds, equaling a 104 speed index with a 20 mph tailwind, to post the fastest clocking. The Equibase Chart reported "Snowing" weather conditions for the final trial.

Trainer Sergio Canales conditions the Utah homebred for owner-breeder Casey Whitaker. The brown colt is out of Easily Ratified by Desirio.  

Jr Honky Tonk Moon broke alertly under jockey Jesus Valenzuela in the fourth trial to win by three-quarters while posting the second fastest clocking of :15.554 seconds, a 98 speed index with a 15 mph tailwind.

Kylie Valenzuela trains the daughter of multiple stakes winner Pappasito for owner-breeder J R Stables. Making her career debut, Jr Honky Tonk Moon is out of Jr Lone A Dynasty by FDD Dynasty.

Sergio Canales and Kyle Valenzuela led all trainer with four qualifiers each. 

Kvn Corona, Pappasito, One Sweet Jess and Jr Dynasty sired two qualifiers each.
