Corona Relentless Wins Featured Allowance Friday At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK– MARCH 29, 2024–Corona Relentless made Remington Park the third track in a row at which she has found the winner’s circle, winning the featured open allowance race Friday night.

The 6-year-old mare is so solid she won a stakes race at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Okla., and then ran second, beaten only a neck in stakes company at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore last year. Her victory Friday night was her third win in seven starts at the distance of 300 yards and she was sent off as the 6-5 chalk, battling with Dickey Bob (9-5) for favoritism.

This daughter of Hes Relentless, out of the Corona Cartel mare Coronas Concierge, is trained by Marla Vargas, who conditions her for owner Roberto Zuniga-Rios of Tulsa. Corona Relentless had just missed in the Miss Ellen Stakes at WRD on Oct. 15 after winning the Rocky Heinzig Stakes at FMT on July 22, 2023.

It apparently doesn’t matter where she races in Oklahoma, she is always right there at the wire. She has now won four of her last five starts and was two necks away from winning six races in a row. Her only losses came by that neck in the Miss Ellen and also by a neck in the Belle Stakes at FMT.

She beat a stakes quality field in this allowance event, out-finishing Dickey Bob by three-quarters of a length. Dickey Bob, a 9-year-old gelding is a multiple graded stakes placed horse, who has won his share of stakes. Corona Relentless has now won or run second in 20-of-29 starts lifetime. She won for her third time in Oklahoma City and has six second-place efforts to go with those victories.

Corona Relentless paid $4.40 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. She earned $17,571 from the $30,125 purse and improved to 29 starts, 10 wins, 10 seconds and one third for $140,163 in earnings.

She covered the distance in :15.446 for a speed index of 91 over a fast track. She was bred in Louisiana by Eddie Cramer and Tom and Bill Maher. Checking in third in the race Friday, a nose behind Dickey Bob, was Blues Candy SA (14-1).

Remington Park racing continues Saturday with a first post time of 6 p.m. CDT. There will be no racing on Easter.
