One Stolin Eagle Scores Fourth Consecutive Win In $58,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 16, 2024–The last race of the evening at Remington Park on Saturday was slated for a stellar line-up of ten horses in honor of two-time world champion SLM Big Daddy. One Stolin Eagle won the $58,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes [G2] over post-time favorite Im No Lawyer Butt.

Jockey Erik Esqueda guided One Stolin Eagle down the long 550-yard straightaway to a 1 1/4-length victory in :26.772 seconds. The duo powered away leading the pack from wire-to-wire clocking a 106 speed index. The slight upset paid $21.80 to win on 9/1 odds. Esqueda remarks, " When he left like that, I felt like we would win even though it was a tough field. I knew he would get up there."

One Stolin Eagle broke his maiden in September of last year and hasn't stopped winning since. The SLM Big Daddy Stakes was his fourth consecutive win and first stakes victory.

When asked what he did differently, trainer Jose Viallafranco replies, "I have been training him since he was two years old. We had a little problem with him at first… but he proved he could run. He always finished really strong at the end of 350 yard races so I told his owner I thought he could prove himself in the 550. He won at Will Rogers and then he proved it again tonight."

Owned by Francisco Lopez of Oklahoma City, One Stolin Eagle has career four wins and his debut start for the season added $34,530 to his bankroll totaling $79,662.

Lopez said, " He is actually our first horse and we bought him at auction. We have a good crew and he's just been a great horse for us." One Stolin Eagle is a $20,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate.

Bred in Oklahoma by Darling Farms, One Stolin Eagle is out of the Stoli mare Stolin Sign, who is a half-sister to G1 winner Mr Pyc To You and to the dam of champion The Fiscal Cliff and graded stakes sire Wagon Tales.

Favored to win, Im No Lawyer Butt was early out in the mix under jockey Bryan Candanosa but came up second best. The four-year-old gelding trained by Mike Joiner placed third in the Texas Classic Derby last year and has four career wins with $103,253 in earnings.

Breeder Stone Chase Stables sold Im No Lawyer Butt for $140,000 in the 2021 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Currently owned by Jaime and Scott Bryant, the Oklahoma bred gelding is a son of One Famous Eagle and out of Cartel Rosie by Carters Cartel.

Volcoms Favorite, with Francisco Calderon aboard, placed third. The three-time winning son of Jess Good Candy has placed second or third in his last four consecutive outs with earnings of $96,624.

Volcoms Favorite was bred in Oklahoma by George Mitchell, II out of the Volcom mare Volcoms Delight. Trainer J.J. Gonzalez III saddled the five-year-old gelding for owner Nove Racing LLC.

Jk Zipper, O Donavan Rossa, Lillie Langtry, Rock Ya Later, We Call Him Joneson, Jess An American and Rb Ec Mystery Zoom round out the order of finish.
