Wired Red Head Wins the $55,927 Speedhorse P&A Futurity Championship [G1] in a Slight Upset

CLAREMORE, OK–NOVEMBER 14, 2023–Wired Red Head scored her first stakes victory Tuesday afternoon with a slight upset over Js Apollitical Chick in the $55,927 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity Championship [G1] at Will Rogers Downs.

With jockey L. Martinez aboard, Wired Red Head broke from the gates in the middle of the pack but quickly regained her speed taking the lead at first call and kept to task until the wire. With the fourth fastest time from the trials, the Oklahoma bred filly's 400-yard victory paid $9.20 to win on 7/2 odds.

Today's victory is only the second career win from 11 starts for Wired Red Head, who now has $66,859 in the bank after cashing in the $21,253 winner's check. The juvenile paint filly clocked an 87 speed index in :20.169 seconds.

The daughter of leading APHA sire CRM Livewire broke her maiden in April at Remington Park and is a three-time stakes finalist, including fourth in the Pot O Gold Futurity [G1], Speedhorse Graham P&A Futurity [G1] and Oklahoma P&A Juvenile. 

Trainer Matt Whitekiller saddled Wired Red Head for owners/breeders Taylor VanBebber, John Herrick and Connie Young. The sorrel filly is out of the Dancing Red Head by Red Storm Cat.

Fastest qualifier from the trials Js Apollitical Chick broke late and closed in on Wired Red Head but was just short at the wire for a second place finish under jockey Edwin Escobedo. The son of Mr Apollitical Dash has three career wins with $28,430 in earnings. The Oklahoma bred gelding is out of Imachickenkicker by Dos Poruno.

Ridden by Roman Cruz, Js Quick Chili placed third 2 3/4-lengths behind stablemate Js Apollitical Chick. The Oklahoma-bred filly has three victories under her belt and $31,666 in earnings. Sired by SF Royal Quick Flash, she is out of the Texas Six mare Texas Chili.

Leading APHA trainer Dee Keener conditioned both Js Apollitical Chick and Js Quick Chili for owner/bred Shirley Wheeler.

The remaining order of finish is Triple L Xpress, Bp The Hero, Clutch Shot, Storms Livewire and Muddy Puddles.
