ALBUQUERQUE, NM—OCTOBER 28, 2023—Warm Red Wine raced to her first career stakes win as the post time favorite when she defeated First Flashin by three-quarters in the $50,000 Champagne Lane Stakes at The Downs at Albuquerque Saturday night.
Ridden by jockey Daniel Amaya, Warm Red Wine completed the 350 yard course in :17.170 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index. It was the fifth career win 18 starts for the daughter of leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel.
Owned-and-trained by Jose Efren Meraz, Warm Red Win was bred in New Meixco by MJ Farms from the Dash Ta Fame mare Sandys Fame. The $29,000 Champagne Lane winner's purse boosted the filly's earnings total to $122,568.

Runner-up First Flashin, an 8-year-old daughter of champion sire First Moonflash, finished a game second to earn $10,000 for owner Victor Marroquin. Trainer Carlos Acosta, Jr. named jockey Emilio Tapia to ride the mare out of Stevie Six by Jumpn. Mike Abraham bred the stakes winner of $142,959.
Joaquin Gutierrez' Blue Riband finished a neck back to pick up $5,000 for third. Hector Chavez trains with jockey Jore Nieto-Saenz riding the 5-year-old daughter of Winners Version. Bobby Simmons bred the stakes-placed earner of $129,735 from the Corona For Me mare Blues Lil Corona.
Brookes Legacy, Bib Daddy Dream Ez On My Mind, Hs Golden Eagle, Pennie WIze and Get Down Dragon completed the field.
