ROCKY VIEW, AB – OCTOBER 22, 2023 – Flight Club extended his current win streak to five in Sunday’s $15,744 (US) Aged Invitational Stakes at Century Downs.
J.B. Botello guided Flight Club ($3.00) to a 1 ½-length victory from the middle of the track. The final time of :19.807 for 400 yards earned the winner a 109 speed index.
Flight Club is a 5-year-old colt bred by Steve Burns, DVM in California out of the Separatist mare Separate Flight.
The Foose gelding’s win streak comprises five stakes, starting with the Century Mile Bonus Challenge in June and includes the Evergreen Park Bank of America Championship Challenge in July in Grande Prairie.
The multiple stakes winner also won the 2022 Evergreen Park Bank of America Championship Challenge, and the 2020 Evergreen Park John Deere Juvenile Challenge, sending him to the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship in Albuquerque in 2020.
Adding $11,342 from Sunday’s win, Flight Club has now amassed $149,855 in 19 starts with 13 career wins. He is five for six in 2023.
Jessaprimadonna finished second to Flight Club, a repeat of their last race in the Cup Classic Maturity Stakes in September. She is two for four in 2023 as the winner of the CTM Princess Stakes and the Old Timers Classic Stakes.
D. L. Benitez was in the irons for trainer Misael Moreno and owner Cindy Fehr. The 5-year-old daughter of One Sweet Jess was bred in Louisiana by Leroy Janacek, Jr., out of the Favorite Cartel mare Favorite Primadonna. Favorite Primadonna’s dam was the multiple graded stakes champion Miss Racy Vike.
Jessaprimadonna has career earnings of $89,610 and is 8 for 27 lifetime. In addition to being a multiple stakes winner in Canada, she qualified for the Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs as a 2-year-old.
Firelicious completed the trifecta with Francisco Guerrro in the irons for trainer Tim Rycroft and owner Beckham Ranch.
Jose De Jesus Ubario bred the 4-year-old filly in California, by Walk Thru Fire and out of Zoomilicious, by Ivory James.
In 15 starts, Firelicious has $21,324 and three wins. She debuted at Los Alamitos and raced at Remington before making Canada her home. She has competed in multiple stakes and earned her first stakes placing in Sunday’s event.
Timbers Express, Bearcat Bill, She Wears the Pantz and Scarletts Cartel completed the field.
