Warhock Scores Third Career Stakes Win In $14,000 Grants Pass Memorial Stakes

GRANTS PASS, OR–OCTOBER 1, 2023–Multiple stakes winner Warhock gets his first victory in 2023 after winning the $14,000 Grants Pass Memorial Stakes (not black type) on Sunday.

Jockey Jaime Lopez guided Warhock to a 3/4-length victory over Corona Wagon Train in :17.341 seconds. The post-time favorite took the lead at first call and kept it to the wire clocking a 101 speed index. The 350-yard first place finish paid $6.40 to win on 2-1 odds.

Trainer Benito Curiel saddled Warhock for owner Malon Cowgill. The son of Zoomin For Bux has lit the board 28 of 36 starts with 11 wins, including the Jack Rhoden Memorial Crooked River Bonus Challenge Stakes and Mail Tribune Stakes last year. The $7,000 winner's share from the Memorial Stakes purse surged his lifetime earnings to $93,732.

Warhock was bred in Oregon by Hayden Brother Ranch. The eight-year-old gelding is out of Copa Show Girl by Corona Cartel.

After a crowded start, Corona Wagon Train regained his composer under the guidance of Richard Birdrattler for a game second a neck over Fast Movin Freight. The son BP Wagon Train just broke his maiden this year with two career wins and $20,338 in the bank.

Bred and owned by Juan Rodriguez, Corona Wagon Train is out of LSG Deal Me A Lady by Deal Me In Now. The three-year-old Oregon-bred colt was trained by Roberto Guzman Herrera. 

Third place finisher Fast Movin Freight, ridden by Alex Anaya, has four wins and $43,236 in earnings. The six-year-old Oregon-bred gelding is conditioned by Freddy Ibarra.

Bred by Matt Huse, Fast Moving Freight is out of Real Queen Like It by Real Visions. The son of Freighttrain B is owned by Matt Huse.

No Juans Fool, One Jess Gamer, Shez Sneakin Fast, Harlie Mo, L Bar D Mistr Cartel, Senorita Frogs and Super Bowl Sunny Day round out the order of finish.
