Real Is Rare Wins Second Straight at Louisiana Downs

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 23, 2023–Real Is Rare held off Louisiana Bru in an $11,000 feature allowance for 3-year-olds and up on Thursday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.

Under jockey Eleazar Hernandez, Real Is Rare show early speed then held off the challenger by a neck for his second consecutive win at the Bossier City racetrack. He completed the 220 yards in :12.152 seconds, equaling a 85 speed index into a 12 mph headwind.

Racing for owners Randy Donald, Craig Catlin and Scott Jones, the son of Duponte broke his maiden in his last start February 10. Today's winner's purse valued at $4,200 increased the 3-year-old geldings earnings total to $10,860 in eight starts.

Leonel Hernandez conditions the Texas-bred gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Tfr Ladies Cartel. Nadie Ramirez is the breeder.

Runner-up Louisiana Bru, ridden by Cesar Segura, picked up $2,200 for her effort. Winless in two starts this season the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue races for owner-breeder Joe Ortiz. Olegario Ortiz trains the 4-year-old Louisiana-bred filly broke maiden at Delta Downs at 2. She has earned $34,790 in 16 starts.

Cartel Pete finished a nose back in the blanket-finish to earn $770 for third. Also a 4-year-old, Cartel Pete races for owner-trainer Francisco Javier Bernal.  Jockey Rolando Cabrera rode the New Mexico-bred son of multiple stakes sire Big Daddy Cartel from the Sixes Royal mare Runin Sixes.

One More Patriot, Monaco Tlc, Mr Ouachita, La Railera Dash, Hidden Charms, Ddeez Kiss My Dash and Give Me The Dice completed the field.
