Major Game Prevails In $120,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity

FARMINGTON, NM–MAY 22, 2022–Major Game held off fastest qualifier Sheza Ahotmess by a neck bob Sunday to win the $120,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity(RG3). Jess Emotions was a nose back in the second futurity blanket-finish at Sun Ray Park Sunday to get third.

Ridden by jockey Sergio Becerra. Jr., Major Game completed the 350 yards in :17.357 seconds, equaling a 104 speed index into a 13 mph crosswind.  It was third win in four starts this year for the Eric Valenzuela trainee and the $72,000 winner’s purse boosted this bankroll to $115,073.

Jaime Perez, Andres Estrada and Santo Espinoza own the New Mexico-bred son of Gronkowski from the Major Rime mare A Major Chamisa. Major Game’s only lost this year was a third-place finish in the New Mexican Spring Futurity(RG2) at Sunland Park. Mike Abraham is the breeder.

Runner-up Sheza Ahotmess earned $24,000 for her second-place effort. The daughter of champion sire First Moonflash entered the finals off the fastest qualifying time in the May 6th trials.

Sheza Ahotmess is a homebred racing for owner-breeder Sherree Meridyth. Trainer Guadalupe Munoz, Jr. named jockey Gerardo Vera to ride the bay filly out of Jazzsnspots by Double Feature Jess. Fifth in the New Mexico Spring Futurity(RG2) she doubled her earnings total to $48,292.

Still a maiden from four starts, Jess Emotions was a game third to earn $12,000 for owner Gustavo Cadena Jr. Jorge Luis Sanchez, Jr. trains the Jess A Chicks filly out of The Blues Girl by Corona Cartel. Mike Abraham is the breeder and Eagar Ramirez had the riding call.

Flash Divine, Flecha Gris, JY Jaaziel, Jess Call Me Mason, Elisas Esperance, Bf Daddys Diva and Flash Me The Price completed the field.
