Wildroses101 Fastest In Turf Paradise Open Derby Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 2, 2021—Wildroses101 defeated Shez Our Jess by a neck in the last of three trials to set the fastest qualifying time for the Turf Paradise Open Derby on Thursday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from today's trials, will return to the Arizona raceway on Thursday, December 23rd to vie for the winner's share of a $70,000-est. purse going 400 yards.

Under jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr., Wildroses101 dueled throughout while stopping the timer in :19.708 seconds, equaling a 104 speed index into a 7 mph headwind. It was the third career win for the son of Ja Jess Perfect. Trainer Tyler Gibbs conditions the Texas-bred gelding for himself and Alan Ostdahl.

Bryon Gardner bred Wildroses101 from the Valiant Hero mare Weeds In My Roses. Third in the Powder River Derby early this year, he has compiled a (15) 3-6-1 record and banked $21,819.

Runner-up Sheza Our Jess held on to the second fastest time of :19.758 seconds for owner Angel Valenzuela. Jim Crotts trains the daughter of champion Hez Our Secret from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Marcy. Jockey Luis Valenzuela was aboard the Texas-bred earner of $23,142. Pete Scarmardo is the breeder.
