SHAKOPOEE, MN—AUGUST 11, 2020—Eva The Diva (30-1) shifted off the inside rail under jockey Julian Serrano to take the lead and hold well to defeat Whisperalittleprayer by a neck in the $86,900 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity Tuesday afternoon at Canterbury Park. A Fabulos Painting finished a head back in the blanket-finish to take third.
Conditioned by trainer Mark Barnes, Eva The Diva completed the 350 yards in :17.926 seconds, equaling a 90 speed index into an 18 mph headwind. It was the second win in five starts this season for the daughter of leading third-crop sire Coronado Cartel and the $39,105 winners' purse boosted her bankroll to $46,033.
"She likes horses down close to her where she can see them," Barnes said. "She’s a hard learner. She put together a good one tonight."
Racing for Lowell Husman, Becky Husman and Lynn Husman, the North Dakota homebred is from the Dean Miracle mare Homemade Miracle. She was a finalist in the Gopher State Futurity at Canterbury Park in June.
Jason Olmstead saddled A Fabulos Painting to his third-place effort for the partnership of the L Team, Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann. Members of the L Team include Canterbury Park track announcer Paul Allen and Minnesota Wild goaltender Alex Stalock. Nik Goodwin had the riding call on the son of leading first-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Painted Summer. Darling Farms is the breeder. He earned $8,690 for the effort.
Hes A Terror, Jess One Lane, McClusky Mugger, Roomer Haz It, Shes Tough Enough P and Sweet Carol Line completed the field. Class E Cartel was scratched.
