ROCKY VIEW, ALB—SEPTEMBER 8, 2018—Machete, a stakes-placed daughter of Wild On Corona raced to a half-length win in the second of two trials Saturday for the Alberta-Bred Derby at Century Downs.

Ridden by jockey Alejandro Hernandez, the gray gelding covered the 400 yards in :19.805 seconds, equaling a 107 speed index for the distance with a 20 mph tailwind.

Trainer Janice Sather conditions Machete for herself and co-owner Barry Sather. Bred by Blair Anton from the FDD Dynasty mare Queens Royal Dynasty, Machete has won two of 15 starts and banked $11,140.

Machete entered the trials off a third-place finish in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Northland Park last month. He was also a finalist in last year's Alberta-Bred Futurity(RG3) and the All Canadian Derby this season.

Gone To Be Bright, under jockey Ricardo Moreno, prevailed by a head over Bringonthewave in the first trial to get the second fastest time of :19.827 seconds, a 106 speed index.

Trainer William Leech saddled the son of Gone To The Mountain to his second consecutive win for owner Gonetothebrightside Syndicate. Jack and Deborah Williams bred the black colt from the Dj Bright Déjà vu mare Dj Bright Tarbaby. He has earned $9,798.

Graded stakes winner Bringonthewave held on to the third fastest time of :19.859 seconds. The six-time winning son of world champion Wave Carver races for owner Dale Zukowski and trainer James Doolin.

Jockey Ramiro Castillo was aboard last year's Alberta-Bred Futurity(RG3) and Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity winner who has earned over $48,000. Shady Lane Stables bred the gray gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Special Corona.
