EVANSTON, WY—JULY 7, 2018—Jrs Blue Boy showed his class today by holding off a late charge from Be Our Honor to win the $7,200 Governors Cup Handicap (not black type) by a neck at Wyoming Downs. Mr Bundy finished half-a-length back in third.
Under jockey Jesus Valenzuela Jrs Blue Boy went wire-to-wire over the 300 yards in :17.287 seconds, a 103 speed index into an 8 mph crosswind. It was the 10th career win for the multiple stakes winning son of Fantastic Corona Jr.
Trainer Riley Moosman saddled the gray gelding for owner/breeder Sam Allie. A Colorado-bred, Jrs Blue Boy is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Lil Blue Blitz. The Governor's Cup Handicap was the third consecutive win for the 5-year-old who has compiled an (18) 10-5-1 record and banked more than $57,600.
Joey Atwood owns-and-trains runner-up Be Our Honor. William Curtis bred the son of Br Proudest Victory in Idaho from the With Honors mare Doll With Honors. Ridden by Jesus Canales, Be Our Honor earned $1,512 for the effort.
Third-place finisher Mr Bundy races for owner-trainer Kevin Williams and was ridden by Cordarelton Benn. The 11-time winner is a son of Spittin Fire from the Dazzle Berry mare Fl Gator Style. He picked up $720 to boost his earnings mark to $23,347. Roy Bundy is the breeder.
