Successful Bluff Dominates in Bear Beaver Handicap on at Wyoming Downs

EVANSTON , WY—JULY 1, 2018—Opening weekend at Wyoming Downs featured an 870-yard stakes race with one of the three Thoroughbreds in the race, Successful Bluff, defeating a field of six in the $8,000 Bear Beaver Handicap (not black-type).

Tyson Lusk was aboard the Virginia-bred son of Successful Appeal for trainer Travis Lusk and owner Peggy Beemer. The 9-year-old gelding cleared the field by almost two lengths and posted a time ot 45.367.

This was the third consecutive win for Successful Bluff ($5.20) who was bred by Hart Farm, out of Shy Lil by Lil’s Lad. It was his sixth lifetime win, four of which have been at 870 yards.

Louisiana Ladys Man trailed and made a good effort to finish second; jockey Jesus Virgen put over three lengths between them and third-place finisher Queens Prince Gol. The stakes-placed son of Jess Louisiana Blue is a familiar face at Wyoming Downs, and has raced exclusively in the Intermountain region.

Louisiana Ladys Man is owned and trained by Ron Surrage. A 7-year-old gelding, Louisiana Ladys Man was bred in Idaho by Dean and Colleen Graham, out of the Proudest Effort mare Proud Lady bug.

Queens Prince Gol and jockey Clyde Smith led the charge for third, finishing a neck in front of El Rey Buccaneer. Mike Scudder trains the son of Gol for owner Jim Harrell. The 11-year-old was bred in Washington by Myers/Hoburg, out of Snowbound Queen, by Snowbound. This was the gelding’s 70th lifetime start; he has finished in the money 37 times and earned nearly $55,000.

Completing the field were El Rey Buccaneer, Atomic Clem and Change of Luck. Odin was scratched.
