PORTLAND, OR—DECEMBER 17, 2017—Away alertly under jockey Luis Gonzalez, fastest qualifier Cm Boom Shakalaka returned Sunday to defeat stablemate Cm One Ina Bluemoon by one-length in the $28,350 Baxter Andruss Futurity at Portland Meadows. Corona B Gone finished half-a-length back to take third.

Saddled by trainer Nick Lowe, Cm Boom Shakalaka moved mid-track after clearing the field to complete the 400 yards in :20.073 seconds, a 97-speed index. It was the fifth win in seven starts for the son of multiple stakes sire Carters Cartel. The $11,340 winners' purse boosted the bay gelding's earnings to $34,849.

An Oregon home-bred racing for owner-breeder Randy Dickerson, Cm Boom Shakalaka won the John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge in August and was also a finalist in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) at Los Alamitos and the Bitterroot Futurity at Sandy Downs this season. He is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Mi Fames A Dandy.

Stablemate Cm Once Ina Bluemoon is co-owned by Dickerson and Lowe. Javier Matias had the riding assignment aboard the Ivory James gelding out of Cool Blue Corona by Jess Louisiana Blue. He banked $4,819 for the second-place effort. Also, a finalist in the Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos, Oneida County Fair Futurity and Bitterroot Futurity, Cm Once Ina Bluemoon has earned $22,539 this season.

Trainer Hector Magallanes saddled third-place finisher Corona B Gone for owner Ruben Magallanes. Michael and Shannon McKay bred the Favorite Cartel gelding in Oregon from the Shazoom mare Go Girl Gone. Ridden by Jose Guerrero, the sorrel gelding picked up $3,118 for his effort. Fourth in the Grants Pass Futurity and fourth in the Pot O'Gold Futurity, Corona B Gone has earnings of nearly $11,000.

L Bar D Razle Dazle, L Bar D Classic Trip, Heza Eagle, Diva Has It, Bunnys Best and Dashing Mystery completed the field. Volt was scratched.

A full program of stakes races were on display at Portland Meadows as a crowd of more than 2,000 looked on with a total of nine stakes events took the stage for Oregon Championship Day. Over a million dollars was wagered Nationwide on the festive program which featured Horses bred in the State of Oregon.
