Machismo Moon Tops La Fiesta Futurity Qualifiers; Field Set For New Mexico State Fair TB Futurity

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 10, 2016—Machismo Moon, a son of Heza Motor Scooter owned by Ramon Alvarez, Joe Alvarez, and Ysabel Medrano, won the last of three La Fiesta Futurity trials on Saturday, and the homebred gelding set the fastest qualifying time to the September 25, $100,000-added final at Albuquerque Downs.

Ridden by Bonifacio Perez for first-year trainer Seth Ferguson, Machismo Moon went 400 yards in :19.678, and his winning margin was three-quarters of a length from fourth-fastest qualifier Toretto. The Dominyun gelding was winning for the second time in five outs and pushing his earnings to $81,070.

Machismo Moon was coming off of a Ruidoso Downs summer campaign during which he won one of four races and ran second, a half of a length behind longshot winner Hot Indy Chick, in the 400-yard, $409,110 Zia Futurity (RG1) on July 31. The gelding is a half brother to 2015 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) winner Chickaloni.

Second-fastest qualifier Dash Ta Desirio won the first trial by a neck in :19.747. J. Martin Bourdieu rode the homebred daughter of Desirio for owner Darian Burt of Salt Lake City, Utah, and trainer Wes Giles. Bob Burt bred the two-time starter in Utah from the Dash Ta Fame mare Wire Ta Wire.

Also on Saturday, the results of two 6-furlong trials established the field for the September 25, $100,000-added New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Futurity (R) for state-bred juveniles.

Raskateer, a homebred gelding by Dome, broke his maiden with a 1 1/2-length victory in the first trial. Alfredo Juarez Jr. rode Raskateer for owners Pierre and Leslie Amestoy of Albuquerque and Mike Abraham of Bosque, New Mexico, and trainer Ross Amestoy.

Raskateer has earned $10,200 from three races. The gelding is a half brother to Grade 2 winners Posse and Green Fee.

Indian H Who, a homebred son of Indian Firewater trained by Joel Marr for owners Sam Stevens and Sammy Stevens of Lamesa, Texas, won the second heat by 3 1/2 lengths. Glen Murphy rode the gelding, who was winning for the second time in three outs.

Indian H Who broke his maiden with a 4 1/2-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race for New Mexico-breds at Albuquerque Downs on August 17. The gelding has banked $14,880.
