One Fabulous Eagle Dominates Corona Cartel, Gets First Career Stakes Victory
One Fabulous Eagle, under jockey Cesar Gomez, easily defeated a full field in the $100,000 Corona Cartel Stakes Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

One Fabulous Eagle Dominates Corona Cartel, Gets First Career Stakes Victory

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 23, 2016—Last year's $2.6 million All American Futurity(G1) runner-up One Fabulous Eagle dominated the $100,000 Corona Cartel Stakes Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs to score his first career stakes victory.

Under jockey Cesar Gomez, the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle completed the 440 yards in :21.406 seconds, a 92 speed index into a 3 mph headwind. It was the second straight win for the bay colt who defeated Double Down by 1½-lengths. Undaunted finished a half-length back for third.

Trainer Kasey Willis conditions One Fabulous Eagle for owner Darling Farms. Bred in Texas by Christine Hudson the colt was a $75,000 repurchase in the 2014 Ruidoso Select Sale. The $42,000 Corona Cartel winners' purse boosted his earning to $574,280 with a (7) 4-1-1 record. He was also third in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity last summer.

Out of the Strawfly Special mare Ladys Heart Of Gold, One Fabulous Eagle could make his next start in the $2.4 million All American Derby trials next month.

Double Down, a Valiant Hero colt owned by Greg Kobold and Wendy See, earned $18,000 for his second place finish. Wes T. Giles saddled the Oklahoma-bred out of Fast Prize Doll, by Mr Jess Perry. Adrian Ramos was aboard the colt making only his sixth career start. Bred by Weetona Stanley, Double Down has banked $31,628.

Ivan Carnero rode Undaunted to his third place finish for the partnership of Hubaldo Solis, Yaneth Cabrera and Astorga Racing LLC. Ronald Stephens trains the Corona Cartel colt out of Jess Genuine, by Mr Jess Perry . Bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox, the multiple stakes-placed colt boosted his earnings to $71,173 after pocketing $10,000 for today's effort.

Undaunted was third in the $50,000 Rainbow Juvenile a year ago, a close second in the $214,000 Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows last fall and reached the finals for the Grade 3, $160,900 West Texas Derby in May.

Ahs Uncle Si, Jm Mr Evan, A Special Beauty, Sprinster, Belvedere, Endless Affair and Senator Cuervo completed the field.

The Corona Cartel is a preferred innovational stakes for 3-year-olds who failed to qualify for in the July 10th Rainbow Derby(G1) trials at Ruidoso Downs. Horse are taken in order of their qualifying time.
