SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 26, 2016—Making his first start in almost a year, multiple stakes winner Toshi Yoshi raced to a wire-to-wire neck win over The Ocean King in the $13,000 Leo Beaudash Stakes (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Arapahoe Park.
Under jockey Ramiro Garcia, the 4-year-old son of Pool, drifted in throughout while stopping the clock in :19.700 seconds, a 95-speed index for the 400-yard distance. It was the fifth win in nine starts for Toshi Yoshi and the $7,800 winner's purse boosted his career total to $128,289.
Also a multiple stake winner, the royally bred The Ocean King races for owners Sierra Hugo Barron, Denise Van Amburgh and Ronald Ban Amburgh. Jose Barron trains the Corona Cartel half-brother to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway.
Bred in Maryland by Lucas Racing, Inc., from the Runaway Winner mare Runaway Wave, The Ocean King has compiled a (23) 5-5-3 record and earned $96,524.
Rocky Mountain Futurity and Arapahoe Challenge Derby winner Built Tuff Enough finished half-a-length back in the show position for owners Rudy Ramirez, Larry and Michelle Rice. Ramirez trains the Texas-bred son of Mighty Invictus our of Inomuff (TB), by Stravinsky (TB). The $1,300 show check brings his total earnings to $131,644. Russell Vicchrilli rode the 6-year-old.
Eyesa Special Dasher, Ncc Firefly, Stel Surprise and Graypromise completed the field. Money Hungry Cartel was scratched.
