Blamitonthetequila Breaks Maiden Impressively to Set Top Qualifying Mark at Turf Paradise

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 28, 2014—Bouncing off a sixth place effort in the Desert Classic Derby finals on November 2, Blamitonthetequila broke his maiden with an impressive 1¾ length effort in the first of two trials Friday afternoon for the Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes. His time of :15.402 was a quick 102 speed index for the 330 yards and set the top qualifying time.

The 10 fastest, 3-year-old & up maidens at time entry who posted the 10 fastest times, will return to the Turf Paradise on Sunday, December 14 and vie for the winner's share of a $5,000-added purse.

Jockey Michael Ybarra was aboard Blamitonthetequila for trainer Eloy Mendoza. Owned by Juvencio Canales, the 3-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Furyofthewind has compiled an 1-0-1 record in three starts this season. Kirk Goodfellow bred Blameitonthetequila in Oklahoma from the Tolltac mare Br Sweet Sensation.

In the second trial A Catchy Six defeated Laldyimaneyeopener by a neck to post he second fastest time of :15.391, also a 102 speed index. Emilio Tapia was aboard the Sixes Royal filly out of the royally-bred daughter of leading Thoroughbred sire Storm Cat(TB), Catchy (TB). Her second dam is the G3 placed *Hawaii mare Island Kitty (TB) and his is the immediate family of champions Editor's Note (TB-$1,602,394), Family Style(TB-$1,537,118), multiple QH and TB stakes sire Hennessy (TB-$580,400), etc.

It was the first win in six starts for the gray filly owned by Jorge Preciado and conditioned by Jose Botello. Ronald Richard had the riding assignment aboard A Catchy Six whose record stands at (6) 1-1-1. Mike Abraham is the breeder.

Still a maiden after five starts, Ladyimaneyeopener held on to the third fastest qualifying time of :15.655 seconds, a 99 speed index. The Mr Eye Opener entered the race off a third place effort in the Turf Paradise 350 Maiden Stakes on November 8.

Benito Guillen Vega conditions the homebred filly out of Brays Somekinda Lady, by Dashing Cleat, for owner/breeder Cesar Romero. Unraced at 2, she is 0-2-1 this season.
