Quickie Rickie Breaks Maiden In First Start, Sets Top Iowa Stallion Futurity Trial Time

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 17, 2014—In his first career start, Quickie Rickie broke his maiden with an impressive two-length win to post the top qualifying time on Sunday for the Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

The 10 fastest qualifies from the two trial races contested, will return to the Iowa racetrack on Sunday, August 31 and vie for the winner's share of a $50,000-added purse going 350 yards.

Under jockey Tony Bennett Quickie Rickie lugged in but was well clear as he completed the 350 yards in :17.967 seconds to post the top qualifying mark. Wayne Garner saddled the First Dinastia gelding for owner Bob Urich. Richard Lee Reed bred Quickie Rickie from the Special Eye Appeal mare Special Stepper.

The quick time in the first race pulled the first five qualifiers into the final.

Trs Amazing Lexi also broke her maiden at first asking when she won the first trial by half-a-length to post the sixth fastest time of :18.479 seconds. Jockey Thomas Wellington rode the Just Amazing Jess filly for owner/breeder Vernon Hammes. Kelly Wellington is the trainer. The bay miss is out of the A Zure Request mare Maydecks Request.

Cartels Feature joined Just Amazing Jess to sire three finalists each.
