Cr Tuckernuck Sharp In Return, Carter With 4 Wins

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 1, 2014—CR Tuckernuck made his 2014 racing debut much better than his finish in his 2013 finale, rolling to a sharp 1¼ length win in the $30,100 allowance feature Thursday at Remington Park.

As a 2-year-old last year, CR Tuckernuck qualified for the $1,000,000 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. However, his run in the November final left something to be desired, as he finished ninth and last while beaten more than four lengths. Now a 3-year-old, CR Tuckernuck came back with a sharp start and run going 350 yards Thursday night, cruising to victory in :17.484 seconds over a fast track.

Owned by Kharlottie Urschel of Canadian, Texas (see related story) and trained by Stacey Capps, CR Tuckernuck was ridden by Berkley Packer. Away at 3-1 odds, CR Tuckernuck paid $8.60 to win, $4 to place and $3.80 to show. Surging Market was second and paid $5.20 to place and $4 to show. Lil Injun Maid was third and paid $4.80 to show. Runaway Jester was the beaten 9-5 wagering favorite, running last in the field of 10.

An Oklahoma-bred colt by Jet Black Patriot from the Corona Cartel mare Fast Prize Corona, CR Tuckernuck won his second career race from eight attempts and his first in two tries at Remington Park. His winner’s check of $16,890 moves his total bankroll to $55,781.

G.R. Carter, the jockey standings leader, padded his advantage with four more wins on Thursday night. He opened the card, riding both halves of the Daily Double on an Appaloosa in Mia Bold Okey ($8.80 to win) in race one and on Heavenly Run, a Paint ($5.60), in race two. Carter also rode Jess For Kix ($6.20) in race eight and Gotta Go Streakn ($6.40) in race nine.

Carter now has 39 wins for the season, putting him five ahead of Packer who is in second-place with 34.

Remington Park has a 12-race card on Friday starting at 6pm. Remington Park will offer advance wagering on the Kentucky Derby on Friday.

Saturday racing begins earlier at 4pm, starting prior to the simulcast of the Kentucky Derby (5:24pm) from Churchill Downs. The $100,000 Sooner State Stakes for Oklahoma-breds is featured on the Saturday night program.

Sunday racing starts at 1:30pm.
