California-Breds Sizzle in Pot O'Gold Futurity Trials at Sun Downs

KENNEWICK, WA—APRIL 20, 2014—Making his first career start, Tsunami Kidd defeated Foose Flying by a neck to post the top qualifying mark for the 2014 Pot O'Gold Futurity Sunday afternoon at Sun Downs. Both two-year-olds were bred in California.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the five trial races, will return to the Pacific Northwest racetrack on Sunday, May 4 and vie for the winner's purse at 300 yards. The purse total is still to be announced.

Ridden by Eduardo Sosa, Tsunami Kidd held off a determined >Foose Flying in the final trial to post the top qualifying time of :15.530 seconds, a 100 speed index. Benito Curiel conditions the Walk Thru Fire colt for owner/breeder Malon Cowgill. It was the first career start for the brown California-bred colt from the Strawfly Special mare Fly Thru Time.

Foose Flying held on to post the second fastest time of :15.530 seconds, a 98 speed index. Danny Montes conditions the daughter of second crop sire Foose for owner/breeder San Gregorio Racing Stables, Inc. Ruben Lozano was aboard the filly from the Walk Thru Fire mare Fire Flying. Also a California-bred, it was the first out for Foose Flying.
