Catchin Fire Extends Streak in Jim Bader Trials, Hot Shot Dash Dominates Iowa Stallion Trials

ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 12, 2012—Prairie Meadows hosted trials for the Jim Bader Futurity and the $40,000-added Iowa Stallion Futurity $125,000-est.

The fastest 10 qualifiers to each of the futurities contested over 350 yards will return to the Iowa racetrack on October 26th and vie for the winner's share of their respective races.

Catchin Fire Extends Wins Streak to Three in Bader Trials

Coming off a win in the $63,428 IQHRA Sale Futurity on September 9, Tom Lepic's Catchin Fire extended her win streak to three with an easy one-length win in the first of two trials contested to the Jim Bader Futurity for Iowa-bred two-year-olds.

Under jockey Agustin Silva, the sorrel miss set the bar at :17.960 seconds. Saddled by Kasey Willis, the $6,525 trial purse pushed her career total to $41,678.

After suffering her only loss in her maiden start at Fair Meadows in August, the Chicks A Blazin filly set the fastest time in the IQHRA Sale Futurity trials before returning to win the final with a game effort over Hada Certain Charm. Jim Harvey bred Catchin Fire from the Cowboys Rodeo mare Rodeo Rona.

Robert and Sandra Brown's Tellher To Fly finished posted the second fastest time of :18.05 with a second place effort to Catchin Fire. Brent Clay trains the homebred Teller Cartel daughter of Two Sick To Fly, by Strawfly Special. Ridden by Stormy Smith the sorrel miss came into the trials off two wins in two starts at Remington Park last spring. She has earned $21,357.

Clay and Smith also combined to win the second trial with Tcf New Love for owner John Lawless. The Rare News filly posted the third fastest clocking of :18.158 seconds. It was the first career win in five starts for the filly out of Manets Lovenromance, by Rolls Of Romance. Jeremiah and Carrie Sperfslage is the breeder.

Hot Shot Dash Dominates Iowa Stallion Futurity Trials, Siring Three Qualifiers

Iowa Dash For Cash stallion Hot Shot Dash sired three of 10 finalists Friday night for the $40,000-added Iowa Stallion Futurity, including both trials winners and three of the top four times.

Immahotdude kicked off things in the first trial with a half-length win over Trs Justamazingpadon. Under jockey Doug Frink the Tony Dean Jones trainee completed his 350 yard task in :18.371 seconds.

Zach Madden owns the gelding out Lews Little Shaken, by Shake Em Open. Larry and Regina Wessels bred the winner of two of three career starts in Iowa.

Another homebred for the Wessels that they also race, Ithinkimhotwo, picked up his second win in as many starts with a half-length victory in the second trial. His time of :18.422 stood as the nights second fastest. Regina Wessels trains the brown Hot Shot Dash gelding out of the Doctor Bright mare Chicks Dumpling Two. Clyde Smith had the riding assignment.

The third Hot Shot Dash qualifier, McR Abbey Rose, posted the fourth fastest time after a second place effort to Ithinkimhotwo. The filly out of Sissy Slick, by One Slick One, is owned and bred by Clarina Rohweder and trained by Kirk Wessels. Mark Luark was in the saddle.

Other stallions with two qualifiers each were Just Amazing Jess, Special Legend and Takalota Bull.
