SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 16, 2012—Conn Creek, one of three qualifiers from the Carlos Sedillo barn, was extremely impressive on Friday and set the top qualifying time from eight trials for the $251,333 New Mexican Spring Futurity at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
Conn Creek blasted away in the 7th trial at 300 yards and won by a commanding two lengths under Joe Martinez. The talented New Mexico-bred two-year-old son of Dash Ta Fame was timed in a quick :14.888 seconds, good for a 96 speed index. Carlos Sedillo trains the unbeaten winner of two races for owner Paul Blanchard of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Sedillo also qualified Ms James and Tombstone who won the 1st and 5th trials, respectively. The $251,333 finale to the New Mexican Spring Futurity will be run on Sunday, April 8.
Conn Creek, out of the Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane, was the first of four finalists, including the top three qualifiers, bred by MJ Farms of Veguita, New Mexico. In the final heat a pair of Jesse James Jr two-year-olds bred by MJ Farms raced to a dead-heat and the second fastest qualifying mark.
Famous Jesse, a $43,000 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Sale yearling, and Junior June Bug, a $35,000 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Sale yearling shared the co-second fastest time of :14.988.
Famous Jesse races for SMS Racing, LLC. Antonio Hernandez saddled the colt to his first win in two starts. Ridden by Esgar Ramirez, he is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Sandy. Junior June Bug is owned by Richard McGehee and trained by Jackie Riddle. It was the career debut for the colt ridden by Freddie Martinez. The sorrel is out of MJ Farms Blushing Bug mare Sandy June Bug.
Jesse James Jr also sired 5th qualifier Gotcha By The Jewels, 7th qualifier Reacorona Jr; 8th qualifier Ms James and 9th qualifier Major Freddie Jr.
Another young sire having a good day was JEH Stallion Station's Desirio. The Grade 3 winning son of Strawfly Special won three trials and qualified Pj Chick In Black and Posies Desiria to the final.

Live racing resume on Saturday and Sunday at 12:45 p.m. Sunday’s main event is the $110,000 New Mexico State University Handicap (11th race) at One mile and 70 yards. Brother Louie is the high weight at 121 pounds in a full field of 12 runners.
