The exceedingly sharp mare by First N Kool has been flawless at Sunland Park this meet for trainer Paul Jones. She sped through the distance in a quick 17.297 seconds, good for a 85 speed index. The winner got the jump on her opponents and seemed to relish the short distance.

Kool Angel earned $30,000 for the Macias Performance Horses. The high four-year-old powered mare has earned over $120,000 from 5 career wins. Her form has taken a big upward surge since coming to Sunland Park this season. Bred in Utah by Kapp Investment Company, LLC, she is out of the Proudest Effort mare Angels Best Effort. Multiple stakes winning star Rylees Boy found his best strides too late and finished second. The two-time winner of the Sunland Park Regional Challenge Championship raced as the even money favorite under regular pilot Joe Ruiz. The seven-year-old gelding by Heza Motor Scooter made a good bid in the final 100 yards but had to settle for second. The 2011 Champion Aged Gelding finished second for owner-trainer Gerardo Pena-Ochoa.

Rylees Boy improved his career mark to 17 wins, 9 seconds and 5 thirds from 37 starts. The third place finisher in last year’s Championship at Sunland Park has earned well over $721,000 in his brilliant career. Gary Nesbit bred him in Arizona from the Rocky Jones mare Pipistrelle.
