Logans Dash Closes Fast to Win Hialeah's Biscayne Stakes on Sunday

HIALEAH, FL—JANUARY 8, 2012—Closing fast down the outside, Logans Dash got up in the final strides to win the third running of the $20,000 Biscayne Stakes Sunday afternoon at Hialeah Park.

Under jockey Jeremy Garcia, the bay miss went from fourth to first over the 250 yard course in :13.275 seconds, a 94 speed index, to defeat This Panther Purrs by a half-side. Rapid Ivory closed well, finishing another half-length back for third.

Manuel Manta trains Logans Dash for Anibal Hernandez. The Toast to Dash 3-year-old picked up $13,575 to push her career earnings mark to $47,274. It was her third win in nine starts. The Louisiana bred miss qualified to the $225,242 Louisiana Breeders' Lassie Futurity(RG2) last season.

In her only other appearance at Hialeah Park the filly finished tenth, after stumbling badly at the start as the post time favorite, in an Allowance race on December 30, 2011. Triple M Farms, LLC bred her from the Game Patriot mare Logans Game.

This Panther Purrs earned $4,525 for owner Fransisco Ramos. Adam Martinez rode the lightly race Panther Mountain colt for trainer Sacremento Chavez. Bred by Mars Racing, it was his best effort in only three lifetime starts. The 3-year-old is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Nora Jane La Jolla.

Rapid Ivory, who won four of six starts last season, is still trying to get into the winner's circle at Hialeah Park. Coming off a fourth place effort in the December 18th Mockingbird Stakes, the Bobby Byrd owned bay picked up $2,263 for today's effort. Ron Raper trains the colt by last year's leading first crop sire Ivory James. Aron Hunt got the riding assignment.

Rapid Ivory came to Hialeah off a three-race win streak in Indiana that included the $109,400 Governors Stakes at Hoosier Park and the $115,160 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Downs. Albert Wells III bred the colt, in North Carolina, from the First Down Laveaux mare Rapid Fire Cash. He has earned $137,688.

Completing the Biscayne field were Rare Ivory Note, Special Awards, Theangelshavespoken, Mukewater Creek and Ocean Potion. Jazzoomba was scratched.
