OGALLALA, NE—AUGUST 17, 2025—Quarter Horse racing will return to Nebraska on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, with a soft launch of the newly opened Lake Mac Racetrack at the Lake Mac Casino Resort in Ogallala. This one-day meet for 2025 aims to introduce the venue to both the industry and horse racing fans.
Located just south of Lake McConaughy off I-80, the racetrack is part of a new resort complex designed to draw horsemen, jockeys and spectators from across the Midwest. After years of anticipation, the debut meet marks a fresh chapter for Quarter Horse racing in the Cornhusker State.

“This is an exciting milestone for Elite Casino Resorts, Keith County and the community of Ogallala,” said Dan Kehl, CEO of Elite Casino Resorts. “We’re ready to open the doors and welcome Governor Jim Pillen, local leaders and guests to an outstanding entertainment experience at Lake Mac Casino.”
The newly completed racetrack in Ogallala will host a three-race card, feature visits from regional dignitaries and include opening ceremony festivities. The facility boasts modern racing amenities designed to accommodate both participants and spectators. Additionally, on-site casino gaming, dining, and lodging options are available at the resort.
"This return of Quarter Horse racing to Nebraska is a major win for the local and agricultural economy in this area," said Director of Racing Cynthia Smith. "Most importantly, this boosts the Nebraska Quarter Horse breeders and trainers who now have more opportunities closer to home. We all should be excited about what the future holds for the industry of running Quarter Horses in Nebraska in the coming years."
The August 19 celebration begins with gates opening at 1 PM, followed by a complimentary meal catered by Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse & Lounge served trackside until 2 PM. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 PM with the first Quarter Horse race at 3 PM.
The casino floor will open at approximately 4 PM after the races, followed by live entertainment inside the property from Drew Phillips (4–8 PM) and Dave Lerbakken (8:30 PM–12:30 AM). The first 1,000 guests through the doors will receive a commemorative grand opening t-shirt, along with additional promotions including new member signups and a Bring A Friend bonus.
Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack is operated in partnership with Hastings Exposition and Racing. Long-term expansion plans include development into a full resort destination featuring expanded gaming, a hotel with indoor and outdoor pool, Ruthie’s Steak & Seafood, casual dining, and RV accommodations.
Stallionesearch.com will be on-site in Ogallala to provide complete coverage of the races, including results, highlights, and interviews, bringing the day’s events to the Quarter Horse Racing industry through Stallionesearch.com.
