Cold Iron Breaks Maiden In Career Debut To Get Fastest UQHRA Maiden Frolic Trial Time

OGDEN, UT–APRIL 7, 2024–Racing for owner-breeder and trainer Gary Chambers, Cold Iron posted a three-quarter length win in her career debut on Sunday while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Fastest UQHRA Maiden Frolic.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Ogden, Utah racetrack on Sunday, April 21st to vie for the winner's share of a $40,176 purse going a distance of 330 yards.

Cold Iron put in a big run under jockey Eric Ayala to defeat fellow qualifier Apollitical Paris in the last of our trials. Her time of :16.884 seconds equaled a 93 speed index into an 8 mph crosswind.

Chambers bred the sorrel filly by Daguerre, a Mr Jess Perry half-brother to leading sire Favorite Cartel, in Utah from the We Have A Secret mare Sheza Vital Secret.

Mv First Down Glock, a Bitterroot Futurity Consolation finalist last season, broke his maiden in the second trial to get the second fastest clocking of :16.909 seconds, a 92 speed index into a 5mph crosswind.

Trainer Sergio Canales named jockey Jesus Canales to ride the son of multiple stakes sire Glock for owner-breeders Andrea and Eddie Jensen. Bred in Utah, from the First Down Dash mare Tf Sheza First Down, Mv First Dow Glove has compiled a (6) 1-1-1 record and banked $2,840.

Canales also conditions the third fastest qualifier, the aforementioned Apollitical Paris, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Apollitical Spirit. Trainer Kylie Valenzuela saddled three qualifiers.
