Firstprize Charlotte Gets Second Futurity Win In Today's Ontario Sires Stakes

AJAX, ONT–AUGUST 17, 2022–Firstprize Charlotte, under jockey Tony Phillips, got her second consecutive futurity win today when she defeated Daz Cold by a neck in the $48,422(US) Ontario Sires Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs.

Racing for owner-breeder Richard Wincikaby, Firstprize Charlotte completed the 330 yards in :17.113 seconds, equaling an 89 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind.  Trainer Michelle Woodley saddled the daughter of multiple stakes sire Dashair to her second win in three starts.

"She came apart a little bit last time," said John McInerney, a former leading rider at Ajax Downs' who now prepares horses with his partner Michelle Woodley. "The stress got to her that day but we worked with her and got it together. My wife did a great job."

Bred in Ontario from the Ivory James mare Ms First Prize Peral, Firstprize Charlotte earned $19,370(US) for her effort to increase her bankroll to $26.680.  She won the Ontario Bred Futurity in her last start July 6th.

Wincikaby, who is from New Liskeard, ON, has raced a lot of American purchases with success at Ajax Downs and only recently started breeding his own Quarter Horses to race.

"It's a little different feeling when it's your own horse that can win a race like this," said Wincikaby. "I have to thank John and Michelle and Tony for working with this filly."

Firstprize Charlotte's dam, Ms. First Prize Pearl, won four straight races for Wincikaby at Ajax Downs in 2017 before she was retired to be a broodmare.

Daz Cold, a son of Cold Hard Dash, earned $9,685(US) for his second-place effort. Jason Pascoe trains the 2-year-old gelding for owner Milena Kwiecien. Belinda Taggart bred Daz Cold from the Stel Corona mare Dazzlin Lady. J.B. Botello had the riding call.

Another 2-year-old son of Cold Hard Dash, A Shades Of Cold, finished a head back in the blanket finish to pick up $9,685(US) for third. Also from the Pascoe barn, A Shades Of Cold races for owner-breeder Amelie Aubut. Ismael Mosqueira had the riding call aboard the gelding out of Sassy Shades Of Gray by Fire Finder.

Adreamtobuildakisson, Eyesa Dasha Wacky, Tex Dynasty, Seismick, Magics Dynasty, Stanair and Miss Chloe Suspect completed the field.
