Los Alamitos Stakes Winner Staubach Sets Top Mark In Legacy Coin Maturity Trials

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 16, 2021—Multiple stakes winner Staubach got his seventh career win on Sunday when he was a gate-to-wire winner in the last of two trials for the Legacy Coin Maturity at Laurel Brown Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifier's will return on Saturday, May 29th to vie for the winner's share of the $24,333 purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Canales, the Arizona-bred Staubach completed the 350 yard course in :17.365 seconds to equal a 104 speed index and establish the fastest qualifying time.

Trainer Sergio Canales conditions the son of multiple stakes sire Texas Icon for owner Gabriel Caballo. Bred by Ralph and Carolyn Fales, Staubach entered the Legacy Coin trials off a stakes winning effort in the John Ward Overnight Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course last fall.

Out of the Rocky Jones mare Girls Rock, the 5-year-old Arizona-bred gelding has compiled a (20) 7-4-2 record and earned $34,522.

Also imported from the West Coast, Dr Tool stumbled at the start but rallied under jockey Cesar Moreno to finish second to Staubach and record the second fastest time of :17.513 seconds, a 99 speed index. Owned-and-trained by Luis Gonzalez, the stakes-placed son of leading third-crop sire Kiss My Hocks has compiled a (18) 3-5-3 record and earned $122,458.

Dr Tool was third in the Grade 3 AQHA Derby Challenge Championship last fall. Andy Caulo bred the bay gelding in Texas from the One Famous Eagle mare Where Eagles Soar.

Making her first start since winning the Wyoming Downs Renegade Sports Derby last August, FDD Swingin Dynasty rallied to win the first trial by a neck over Freight Boss while establishing the third-fastest qualifying time of :17.540 seconds, a 98 speed index.

Trainer Alvaro Torres saddled the stakes winning daughter of world champion sire FDD Dynasty for owner Darin Burt. Jerry Windham bred the five-time winner in Utah from the Shazoom mare Jess A Swingin. She has earned $38,446.
