Jet Wings One Holds On To Win Adequan California Derby Challenge

CYPRESS, CA—MAY 23, 2021—Making her first start in more than a year the lightly raced Jet Wings One held off A Dash Of Sign to win the $38,242 Adequan California Derby Challenge by a nose Sunday night at Los Alamitos Race Course. Ilushion Eagle was a head back in a blanket finish to take third.

Jet Wings One lugged in early under jockey Jose Nicasio while completing the 400 yards in :19.791 seconds, a 91 speed index with a 2 mph tailwind. It was the third win four starts for the daughter of champion and second-crop sire Ec Jet One.

Trainer Monty Arrossa conditions the Idaho-bred filly for owner-breeder Dan Moon. After breaking her maiden in her first start at 2, Jet Wings One won a trial for the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity(G2). She finished second in the May 17, 2020, final, her last start until the ©Adequan California Derby Challenge tonight.

Out of the Hadtobenuts mare Wayward Wings, Jet Wings One picked up $19,121 in the Challenge Derby to bring her career bankroll to $72,610.

The win also earned Jet Wings One a starting spot in the $150,000-est. ®Adequan Derby Challenge Championship(G2) to be contested October 23rd during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Runner-up, A Dash Of Sign earned $8,222 for second. Mike Robbins trains the daughter of leading sire Tempting Dash for owner Reliance Ranches LLC. The bay filly has compiled a (13) 2-2-2 record and banked more than $77,100.

Ruben Lozano had the riding call. A Dash Of Sign was a finalist in Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1) at 2.

Post-time favorite Ilushion Eagle drifted early before luging in late but still managed to finish third for owner Salome Gallego. Trainer Jaime Gomez conditions the Darling Farms Mexico-bred son of last year's leading first-crop sire of winners, One Fabulous Eagle.

Oscar Peinado was aboard the three-time winner from the Forestry (TB) mare Oklahoma Rain (TB). Ilushion Eagle has earned $24,073 after pocketing $4,207 in the Adequan California Derby.

Eyesa Timber, Diva On Fire and Your Painted Eagle completed the field.
