FARMINGTON, NM–April 28, 2026The Friday afternoon program at Sunray Park sets the stage for an exciting ten-race card, with first post scheduled for 1:15 PM and all eyes building toward the featured event, the Grade 3 $70,000 Jimmy Drakes Stakes. Set for race ten at approximately 4:35 PM, the 350-yard sprint brings together a competitive field of ten New Mexico-bred three-year-olds and upward, promising a high-speed showdown packed with proven talent and rising momentum.

Leading the charge as the 3-1 morning line favorite is Alamos, a four-year-old gelding who enters in peak form. He opened his 2026 campaign with authority, capturing the G2 $80,000 Pepsi Cola Stakes in a determined, driving finish that produced a career-best 103 speed index. That performance only reinforced the consistency he showed to close out 2025, where he powered home to win the G2 $100,000 Lovington Stakes. Now boasting seven lifetime victories and $168,401 in earnings for Tungsten Racing Partnership, Alamos continues to validate the $185,000 investment made at the Ruidoso New Mexico Sale.

Sired by Eye Am King and out of the Woodbridge mare Anakena, the New Mexico-bred was bred by MJ Farms and will break from the outside post ten. Trainer Tony E. Sedillo has him dialed in, and jockey Christian Ramos retains the mount as they look to deliver another top-level performance.

Standing firmly in his path is Jesses Wish, the 7-2 second choice on the morning line and a battle-tested veteran with a resume to match. The six-year-old gelding exits a strong runner-up effort behind Alamos in the Pepsi Cola Stakes and will be looking to turn the tables in this rematch. With five multi-graded stakes victories and earnings of $369,921, Jesses Wish brings both class and experience into the gate for owners Javier M. Chavez and Heysol Howlet.

By Jesse James Jr and out of the Stel Corona mare Wish You Had One To, Jesses Wish was also bred by MJ Farms and will break from post six under jockey Jorge Nieto-Saenz for trainer Jose Ignacio DeHerrera. His consistency at this level makes him a major threat as the field lines up for another thrilling clash.

With a full gate of seasoned competitors and sharp contenders, the G3 $70,000 Jimmy Drakes Stakes shapes up as a fast-and-furious 350-yard dash where early speed and finishing grit will decide the outcome. Fans and bettors alike can expect a high-stakes battle under the New Mexico sun, with proven runners and hungry challengers colliding in one of the day’s most anticipated races.
