ROCK SPRINGS, WY–AUGUST 20, 2025– Sweetwater Downs will stage trials for the $75,000-est. Sweetwater Downs Derby on Sunday, August 24, for 3-year-olds sprinting 400 yards.
First post is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MDT); the Derby trials are Race 5 (approx. 2:40 p.m. MDT) and Race 10 (approx. 4:45 p.m.). The Derby final is set for September 7. In addition, Races 1-4 on the Aug. 24 program will be contested as the $35,000-added Sweetwater Downs Maturity at 400 yards for 4-year-olds and up, with the 10 fastest qualifiers returning September 7 for the final.
The day’s shortest morning-line price belongs to Race 10’s #4 Ojd Jess A Bug (6-5), a perfect 9-for-9 gelding owned by Karla Diaz Gomez and Oscar Jaime Diaz, trained by Javier Fuentes and ridden by David Alvarez Jr.
The Idaho-bred son of One Sweet Jess out of Bugs Wagon by Pyc Paint Your Wagon swept this summer’s $170,000 Energy Downs Derby on June 8 after taking his May trial, and last year he captured the $150,500 Sweetwater Futurity and its trial; lifetime earnings stand at $226,500.
Race 5 features #4 Divory (2-1) for owner Bill Doenz, trainer Josh Taylor, and jockey Juan Pulido. The Oklahoma-bred filly by Ivory James out of Daring Diversion by Strawfly Special—a $60,000 Heritage Place purchase—arrives off a decisive August 9 victory in the $91,950 Wyoming Downs Derby at the same 400-yard trip.
She was second by a nose in her July 18 Derby trial and collected sharp allowance placings at 300–350 yards earlier. She has earned $65,510 in 13 lifetime starts.
