Stakes Action Doubleheader and Derby Trials Headline Sunday at Hipódromo De Las Américas

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO–August 8, 2025–Sunday’s card at Hipódromo De Las Américas promises high-powered action, featuring three stakes events and lucrative jackpots on the line. Kicking off the program is the $44,174 AQHA Hipódromo De Las Américas Championship Challenge in race one (see previous coverage). Later in the afternoon, the spotlight shifts to the $38,484 Jody’s Glory Classic Finals in race six, followed by the Mexico Bred Distaff Derby Trials in races nine and ten.

Race Six – $38,484 Jodys Glory Classic Finals
The fastest qualifiers from the July 20 trials return for 350 yards in the Jody’s Glory Classic Finals, with Dark Water Bay installed as the 3-1 morning line favorite. The colt’s recent trial win marked his first career victory from four starts, pushing his earnings to $20,000. Owned by Cuadra Alpuyeca and trained by Antonio García, Dark Water Bay was bred in Oklahoma by Mike Vaughan. A $77,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the Mr Jess Perry son is out of Aqua Girl by Corona Cartel. His record also includes runner-up efforts in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge—behind Pacific Surfliner—and the Prize Classic. Breaking from post four, he will again be ridden by Heriberto Camacho.

Runner-up in the trials, Fdd Star looks to turn the tables in the finals. The gelding, bred in Texas by Jerry Windham, is by Fdd Dynasty out of Viborita (by Shazoom). He races for Cuadra Alpuyeca under the conditioning of Antonio García Carranza, with J. M. García set to pilot from post five.

Rg Divine Reason will try to build on his trial heat victory, where he pulled away by three-quarters of a length. Listed at 7-2, the Good Reason Sa colt is out of Visual Magic by Corona Cartel, bred in Mexico by Criadero San Sebastián. Owned by Rancho Las Gaviotas and trained by Marlon Quezada, he will start from post three with Arturo Vega Moreno in the irons.

An eight-horse field will contest the Jody’s Glory Classic Finals covering 350 yards in race six.

The final two races on Sunday’s program will decide the qualifiers for the $20,000-added Mexico Bred Distaff Derby Finals on August 31, 2025.
In race nine, the first trial, Jacob Israelita leads the betting at 5-2. The Red Storm Cat gelding, out of Tellem Honeys Here (by Teller Cartel), was bred in Mexico by Luis Arturo Vázquez. He has earned $24,527 from 14 career starts for Cuadra La Tonka and is trained by Juan José Razo. Alejandro Gómez has the call from post four.

Hf Cinnamon Carver will break from post six for Cuadra Falcon. The Tj Dine N Dash colt is out of Waves And Kisses (by Wave Carver) and was bred in Mexico by Héctor Flores Rentería. With $42,808 in career earnings from nine starts, he will be ridden by L. D. Falfán for trainer Luis Eustasio Nieto Muñoz.

The tenth and final race features a heavy favorite in Princesa Bury, the standout of the trials at 5-2. With more than $164,000 in lifetime earnings, the Danny Cartel filly is riding a seven-race win streak, including her recent victory in the Mexico Derby. Bred by Armando León out of Princesa Bury Buu (by One Dashing Eagle), she is owned by Cuadra Guillén and trained by Juan José Razo. Alejandro Gómez retains the mount from post nine.

Also in trial two is As Easy Jet Princes, bred by Luis Arturo Vázquez. The Red Storm Cat filly is out of Azalways Cajun and races for Cuadra La Tonka under trainer Juan José Razo. M. Utrera takes the riding assignment.

Nineteen entrants across the two trial heats will sprint 350 yards, with the ten fastest advancing to the finals later this month for a shot at the Mexico Bred Distaff Derby crown.
