MEXICO CITY, MEX–JULY 31, 2025–Hipódromo de Las Américas will host two days of trials on August 2 and 3 to determine the qualifiers for the Restricted Grade 2 Subasta Selecta Futurity, which offers an estimated purse of $288,267 USD. The ten fastest qualifiers will advance to the final on August 24, with the next ten fastest earning a spot in the Subasta Selecta Futurity Consolation.
The trials for two-year-old who are graduates of the Subasta Selecta Yearling Sale will be split across both Saturday and Sunday, with six races scheduled each day.
The opening day of trials will spotlight young talent looking to secure one of the ten coveted spots in the final. Two contenders stand out from the six-race card.
Installed at 5-2 morning line odds, DK Misty Cartel is one of the most watched fillies on the card. Sired by Danny Cartel and out of Mingle Tingle by First Moonflash, she has shown promise in limited starts with $24,165 in earnings from just two outings, including a second place finish in the Mexico Futurity. Owned by Cuadra San Martin, she is trained by Luis Enrique Cruz Solis and will be ridden by J. A. Ambrosio.
Another to watch is Mr Do Chicks, who enters with 3-1 morning line odds and a consistent résumé. Bred by Abelardo Gallegos and racing for Granja La Esperanza, this gelding by Mr Chiks Perry out of Doyouknowhoiam (by First Down Dash) has finished in the top three in four of five starts, including two wins and a total bankroll of over $23,000. His only off-the-board effort came in the Mexico Futurity with a fourth-place finish. He won the Garanones Futurity Consolation in his last start. He’s trained by Juan Jose Razo and will be ridden by Osvaldo Cervantes.
The second day of trials is shaping up to be the stronger of the two cards, with several standout juveniles carrying big expectations into their respective heats.
At 2-1 morning line odds, Rey De Manny enters with an undefeated four-for-four record and impressive earnings of $134,441 following a victory in the Garañones Futurity-RG2. Owned by Cuadra San Martin, the gelding was a $43,243 Subasta Selecta Sale graduate and is a full brother to 2024 Mexico Futurity winner Kin Krash.
Sired by Krash Cartel out of Jess Blazin Queen (by Jesse James Jr.), Rey De Manny is trained by Ashley Cirilo and will be guided from post four by Nestor Duran. He’s among the most prominent names of the trials and a clear favorite to advance.
A familiar rival to Rey De Manny, Payasa De Manny finished second to him in the Garañones Futurity and looks to reverse that result in the first heat of the day. The Krash Cartel filly is out of Coconut Crystal by Separatist and has two wins and $52,100 in earnings from five career starts. She’s another homebred for Cuadra San Martin and Abelardo Gallegos, trained by Luis Enrique Cruz.
In the second trial of the day, DK Candymex enters with momentum and back class. The daughter of Danny Cartel out of Good First Choice (by Jess Good Candy) has two wins from four starts and $26,600 in earnings. She was third in the Garañones Futurity behind Rey De Manny and Payasa De Manny, making her a logical contender to move forward. She is owned by Cuadra Alpuyeca, bred by Cuadra La Presita, trained by Antonio Garcia, and ridden by Heriberto Camacho.
The Subasta Selecta Futurity Finals and consolation final will headline the August 24th card, which also marks the conclusion of the three-day Subasta Selecta Yearling Sale (August 21–23). That Sunday will also feature the Breeders’ Cup at Hipódromo, a celebration of Mexico’s elite breeding programs with eight stakes events, including:
- Arcadio Espinosa Classic
- Salomé Gallegos Classic
- Jacinto Garduño Classic
- Salvador Oñate Classic
- Everardo Múzquiz Elguezábal Classic
- Abelardo Gallegos Classic
