GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 5, 2025—Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing will feature ten 300-yard trial heats on Saturday, June 7, to determine the fastest ten qualifiers for the $100,000-added Wyoming Bred Futurity Final to be run on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
First post time is set for 1:30 p.m. (MT) with a $5,000 purse offered in each trial heat.
Heading into Saturday’s trials as a major contender is In The Vee, a 2-year-old gelding by Junior June Bug out of Brindis Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne who is undefeated in two starts and won the $67,000 BHS Futurity at Miles City.
Trained by Jess R. Matt and by J. Cardenas he will head Race from post 6. Bred by Dan or Kim Lapierre and owned by Eddie Jensen, In the Vee has drawn post 6 in Race 8 and comes in as one of the top morning-line choices at 2-1. He has already earned $34,825.
In Race 3, Y O Special Effort is 7-2 in the morning line. A brown filly by Fiftyshadezofgrey out of Barely a Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne, she is bred and owned by Gerald F. Kaul, trained by Jess R. Matt, and will be ridden from post 2 by J. Cardenas.
In two starts this year, Y O Special Effort broke her maiden in the BHS Futurity trial and returned in the final to finish fourth.
Double 007, another strong candidate, will break from post 5 in Race 5. A bay gelding by Junior June Bug out of The Southern Diamond by Southern Cartel, he is trained by Diana Garfias and will be ridden by J. C. Rivas. Dan or Kim Lapierre bred Double 007, who races for Triple G Racing LLC. After breaking his maiden in career debut at Energy Downs May 18, his morning-line odds are set at 5-1. He has earned $5,500.
Sharing the same heat is Kcross Lever Action, a sorrel filly by Pistol Packin Perry out of Vvr Dazzling Corona by Coronas Velvet. Also breaking her maiden in her career debut on May 16, she is trained by Skyler Greene and will be ridden by V. F. Dominguez from post 9. Kcross Lever Action is owned by BDS Performance Horses and bred by Mike Lipp, listed at 7-2 on the morning line. She has earned $5,500.
In Race 9, Painted Runnin Girl returns as a live outsider. The brown filly by Famous Painted One out of This Girls Back by Feature Mr Jess is bred by Barry D. Schwab, owned by Lana Matt, trained by Jess R. Matt, and will be ridden by J. Cardenas. A three-quarter length winner in her last start, May 24, she starts from post 3 at 9-2 morning line.
Drawing post 8 in the same heat is Paint Me Ivory, a gelding by Jess Paint Me out of Sheza Lady James by Ivory James. Bred and owned by Robert B. Fox, he is trained by Martha Maldonado and will be ridden by M. Arana. Breaking his maiden by one length in career debut May 17, he is the 7-2 second choice on the morning line.
Wrapping up the trials in Race 10 is Cyber Cartel, a gelding by first-crop sire Cyber Monday out of Mississippi Queen by Corona Cartel. Trained by Kylie Valenzuela and ridden by owner J. J. Olivo, Cyber Cartel broke his maiden at Energy Down May 26 by three-quarter. An earner of $5,500, was bred by Ron Moosman and Jim Nebeker and is listed at 7-2.
The ten fastest qualifiers from Saturday’s card will earn a berth in the $100,000-added final to be held on Saturday, June 21. With a competitive mix of proven winners and fast-working debutantes, the Energy Downs trials are set to showcase Wyoming’s finest juvenile Quarter Horses.
