FARMINGTON, NM–MAY 21, 2025– A competitive field of ten promising New Mexico-bred juveniles is set to compete on Saturday in the $120,000-added New Mexico Breeders Futurity (RG2) at Sunray Park. The race is headlined by the top three morning-line selections: Fire Powwer, Angels In The Clouds, and Ivorys Patriot.
The 350-yard contest, scheduled as the tenth race on the card with a 5:00 p.m. MT post time, offers a winner’s share exceeding $120,000 and features several outstanding individuals early stages of their careers.
Leading the field as the 3-1 morning line favorite is Fire Powwer, a trial winner who previously triumphed in the New Mexico Spring Fling Stakes on April 5. This promising colt, a son of Big Daddy Cartel, is out of the Walk Thru Fire mare, Dahlia. He is owned by CHR Racing and trained by Tony E. Sedillo.
In his 2025 campaign, Fire Powwer appears powerful, boasting two victories and a second-place finish that earned $29,880. He will have Mauro Salcedo aboard from the inside post position two.
The second choice, currently at odds of 7-2, is Angels In The Clouds. This horse is gearing up for his fourth career start following a successful maiden debut. He previously finished third in the New Mexico Spring Futurity trial and recently secured a second-place finish in the New Mexico Breeders Futurity trials.
Angels in the Clouds, a colt sired by Jet Black Patriot, has already earned $20,670 this year for owner and trainer Joel Gutierrez. Brian Cobos Barraza will be in the saddle from post six.
Also expected to contend is Ivory's Patriot, listed at 9-2 on the morning line. The daughter of Jet Black Patriot out of Special Dark Ivory by Ivory James is coming off two races. After breaking her maiden in her first attempt, the filly finished second in her trial after barely missing.
Owned by Orona Racing, LLC, and trained by Jorge A. Morales-Flores. Ivorys Patriot will be ridden by Federico Martinez. The filly will race from post three.
The New Mexico Breeders Futurity is limited to horses accredited as bred in New Mexico, with contributions from the NMHBA, and payouts extended to all ten runners.
