HOUSTON, TX–MAY 21, 2025–Sam Houston Race Park will host the second night of the $150,000-added Sam Houston Futurity-G2 trials on Saturday. 78 two-year-olds will compete across nine heats for one of five qualifying spots in the prestigious futurity final.

Among Saturday’s top prospects is Britts Special Candy, a filly by Jess Good Candy out of Britts Special Eyes, by Strawfly Special. Bred in Oklahoma by H & E Ranch Inc., she campaigns for owner Jose Antonio Cano under the guidance of trainer Patrick L. Clemons. Nestor Duran will be aboard once again.

Britts Special Candy broke her maiden in a trial for the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park in March, then returned to run a strong second in the $420,000 final. With $77,247 in earnings from two starts, she brings top-tier stakes experience Saturday’s trials.

Another key contender is I B A Big Girl, a Texas-bred filly by Big Daddy Cartel out of I B Jessie Jane, by Jesse James Jr. Bred and owned by Shane and Barbee Beer. John Stinebaugh trains her and will be ridden by Gilberto Linares.

From two starts, I B A Big Girl has recorded one win and earned $10,781. That maiden victory came at Sam Houston on May 10, where she battled late to get up in a determined finish.

Rounding out the list of featured contenders is This Eagles a Leader, a filly by This Is An Eagle out of Cartel Leader, by Corona Cartel. She was bred in Texas by Pete Scarmardo, who also owns the filly.

This Eagles A Leader is trained by John Stinebaugh and will be ridden by Gilberto Linares. In her only start, she won a $20,000 maiden race on May 3 at Sam Houston, overcoming early bumping to surge ahead late for a convincing victory, earning $11,700.

Saturday’s program will determine the final five qualifiers for the Sam Houston Futurity final on June 14, completing the ten-horse lineup from a pool of 78 entrants. The first five qualifiers will be determined Friday night, May 23 from 79 entries (see related story).
