West Texas Futurity Trials Set for Sunday
Daou, a $270,000 purchase at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, will be looking for his second consecutive in as many starts in Sunday's West Texas Futurity (G2) trials at Sunland Park.

SUNLAND PARK, NM--MARCH 13, 2024--Recent maiden breakers Daou and Bout Perfect lead a group of 120 2-year-olds entered in Sunday's 300-yard West Texas Futurity (G2) trials at Sunland Park.

A dozen heats will be contested, starting at 12:25 p.m. (MDT). The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000-added West Texas Futurity final on April 6.

Daou is a bay son of champion FDD Dynasty trained by Fred Danley for owner J & SM Inc. of Fort Stockton, Texas. A $270,000 purchase from breeder MJ Farms at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the colt began his career with a convincing 1 1/2-length victory in a 300-yard, $24,000 maiden-special-weight dash on March 3.

Daou is out of Donelli, a daughter of Big Daddy Cartel who won the 2019 New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs. The colt drew post 7 and will be ridden by Noe Garcia Jr. in the fourth trial.

Bout Perfect is coming off of a wire-to-wire, half-length win in a 300-yard, $24,000 maiden-special-weight race on March 2.

A $28,000 buy from breeder McColee Land and Livestock at last year's Ruidoso Select Sale, the gray daughter of champion Kvn Corona is trained by Eric Valenzuela for owner Pavon Racing LLC.

Bout Perfect drew post 2 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. in the first heat.

Other noteworthy juveniles entered in Sunday's trials include Jess Sonny D, a $280,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. The gelded son of world champion Apollitical Dash is trained by Manuel Rodolfo Rodriguez for owner MRB Racing LLC, and he is out of Sonny D, a winning daughter of champion Tempting Dash, and he is a half brother to two stakes-placed runners, including 2020 Heritage Place Derby (G2) runner-up Jesse D.
