SUNLAND PARK, NM–MARCH 12, 2024–Recent winner HS Danger Weapon is one of 94 state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses entered in Saturday’s 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) trials at Sunland Park.

A homebred son of Osbaldo racing for Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico, HS Danger Weapon made his debut with a three-quarter length victory in a 300-yard, $30,000 maiden-special-weight dash for New Mexico-bred juveniles on March 2. Armando Alamos trains the gray colt.

HS Danger Weapon drew post 9 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia in the first of 10 trials.

Other noteworthy entries in the Spring Futurity trials include Eye Am Yours, Three Finger Jack, and Fast Copy King.

A bay daughter of Eye Am King trained by Eric Valenzuela for owner Tungsten Racing Partnership, Eye Am Yours was a $170,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The filly is out of Bigg Alice, a winning Big Daddy Cartel mare, and she is a full sister to 2023 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) winner Bigg Shades Of Gray

Eye Am Yours drew post 7 and will be ridden by Luis Flores-Garcia in the third heat.

A $150,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Three Finger Jack races for J & SM Inc., Don Reynolds, and M. Lane Reynolds from the barn of trainer Fred Danley.

The bay Jesse James Jr gelding is out of Start Somethin Bad, a daughter of Pappasito who won the ’17 La Primera del Ano Derby (G3) at Los Alamitos, and he is a half brother to 2022 All American Futurity (G1) finalist Doing Something Good, and New Mexican Spring Futurity finalists Doin Something Right and Wood Be Bad.

Three Finger Jack drew post 3 and will be ridden by Noe Garcia Jr. in the 10th trial.

Fast Copy King was purchased by owner Heavy Hitters Racing Stables as a yearling for $125,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. A son of Eye Am King, the gelding is out of Fast Copy Miss, a winning and graded stakes placed Heza Fast Man mare, and he is a half brother to ’18 New Mexico Classics Futurity (RG2) winner Woodys Copy Cat.

Fast Copy King drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez for trainer Eric Valenzuela in the seventh heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday’s trials will meet in the $150,000-added New Mexican Spring Futurity final on April 6.
