You Can Run vs. Cattail Cove In Allowance Feature On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–MARCH 3 2024–Grade 1 winner You Can Run, the decorated Cattail Cove, and stakes winners Up The Interest and JessBeing A Friend are among the six top sprinters that will square off in the featured $15,000 allowance main event on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Owned by Steve Burns and trained by Mike Casselman, You Can Run is a seven-time winner in his career and already a winner once this season. His victory on January 13 was one of his best efforts since he won the Go Man Go Handicap in 2021.

The Favorite Cartel gelding has also competed in the Champion of Champions and finished second in the Grade 1 2020 Los Alamitos Winter Derby. All in all, You Can Run has taken part in 12 stakes events.

Few horses in that nation – if any - have been part of more stakes races than Link Newcomb’s Cattail Cove. The 7-year-old Favorite Cartel gelding has taken part in 31 stakes during his 43-race career and this allowance event snaps a streak of 15 consecutive appearances in a stakes race.

The four-time stakes winner will be looking to add to his career earnings of $662,932.

The rest of the field sees Eleazar Gonzalez’s Up The Interest going after his fifth career win in 19 starts. His last win came in the trials to the Grade 2 Southern California Derby and he’ll be looking to improve off his most recent effort, a fifth place finish against allowance competition.

Howard Nichols’ Jess Being AFriend, winner of the 2022 A Ransom Handicap, Ima Sixy Man and Disruptor complete the field.
